Beijing

As the capital of the People's Republic of China, Beijing is the nation's political, economic, cultural and educational center as well as being the most important center in China for international trade and communications. It has been the heart and soul of politics and society throughout its long history. Because of its role in the life and growth of China, there is an unequalled wealth available for travelers to discover as you explore Beijing's ancient past and enjoy its exciting 21st Century world. In 2008 when Beijing hosts the Olympic Games, Beijing will show the world something so special that everyone will be awestruck by Beijing's latest accomplishments combined with its ancient history.

Beijing is located in the northeastern corner of China. Its city limits extend some 80km (50mi), including the urban and the suburban areas and the nine counties under its administration. Though it may not appear so in the shambles of arrival, Beijing is a place of very orderly design. Long, straight boulevards and avenues are crisscrossed by a network of lanes. Places of interest are either very easy to find if they're on the avenues, or impossible to find if they're buried down the hutongs (narrow alleys).

Our students begin their journey at the center of political, economic, cultural and educational capital of China, Beijing. Beijing is regarded as the epicenter of the standard Chinese language and the most optimal learning environment for “Putonghua” or Mandarin. Students will stay at one of the most prestigious universities in China, BeiHang University. BeiHang University was founded in 1952 as the first university in the study of aerospace technology. Now the University boasts over 90 majors of study for undergraduate, graduate and doctoral degrees. The campus of BeiHang is notable for its beautiful environment, convenient transportation and complete and high quality service in daily life and study of students.

Students stay at the foreign student’s hotel on the campus of BeiHang University. The hotel offers double occupancy air conditioned rooms with TV, phone, study desk and a private bathroom. The hotel’s restaurant is accessible on the 4th floor and will be the place for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The modern restaurant has a lively atmosphere and is highly regarded on campus for its delicious food.

For 5 days a week, students will study Mandarin Chinese from 8:00AM to 12:00PM. After lunch, students have an hour break before going to Chinese culture classes which are offered to students with a variety of fields such as Chinese calligraphy, painting, sports, martial arts, couple rings, tai-chi and cooking. All language teachers are native speakers who are highly experienced and hold top university degrees in teaching Chinese as a foreign language. At night, group outings to Laoshe teahouse, Chinese Opera, acrobatics, karaoke and movies are planned for students. On weekends, students visit the famous places in or around Beijing such as Summer Palace, Beijing Zoo, Tiananmen Square, Forbidden City, Great wall, Ming tombs, Wangfujing street, Temple of Heaven, Beihai Park, and Hutong tour. The 25 days students stay in Beijing will leave them awed at both the rich history and an even more prosperous future.
